One of the most remote locations remaining on planet earth is the continent of Antarctica.  The continent is occupied by a handful of scientists, herds of penguins, seals, whales and krill.  Though the continent is barren, there are still cruise itineraries that visit the icy wasteland.  With that being said, cruise companies have done lots to  make the cruises once in a lifetime experiences; from traveling onto the ice, to hanging out with penguins, to sleeping on the ice, there are many different and unique opportunities for experiencing Antarctica.

Silversea has some incredible itineraries available ranging from 6 to 18 days in length.  These offers mainly cruise out of Ushuaia, but there are some that cruise out of Punta Arenas and Buenos Aires.  Silversea offers two different types of cruises for Antarctica.  There is the expedition cruises which sail through the famous Drake Straight, and there is the Antarctica bridge.  The bridge plan offers cruisers the opportunity to take a private flight to their ship in Antarctica, board the ship from the ice and set sail.  This will cost significantly more than the expedition cruises and are also shorter in length, but you’ll experience something you’ll never experience again, a birds eye view of the continent.

Silversea’s ships are small in size and outfitted for Antarctica.  This means there will only be a few hundred passengers at most, and you’ll get the chance to ride small rafts onto the ice.  Stepping on the ice offers so many different things to do including meeting penguins, sleeping on the ice and the opportunity to take incredible photos.

If you’re interested in hearing more about these cruise opportunities, don’t hesitate to send us a message.  Visiting Antarctica is truly a once in a lifetime experience and we certainly recommend it.
